Schools Outreach Programme
At Ail Arian, we believe that inspiring the next generation is an important part of creating a more sustainable future.
Through our schools outreach programme, we work with pupils to explore the environmental challenges associated with electronic waste and introduce them to the principles of sustainability, recycling and circular design in a practical and engaging way.
We have now delivered the programme in a number of schools, giving children the opportunity to learn about how electronic products are made, what happens to them at the end of their life, and why recovering valuable materials is so important.
Bringing sustainability to life
During each session, pupils are introduced to the growing issue of electronic waste and the impact it can have on the environment.
We then explain how Ail Arian’s recyclable conductive inks are designed to help address some of these challenges by allowing valuable materials, including silver, to be recovered and reused rather than discarded.
The aim is to make complex topics such as printed electronics, material recovery and the circular economy accessible and relevant to young learners.
Learning through experimentation
A key part of the programme is a hands-on experiment that allows pupils to see circularity in action.
The children work with a printed circuit and take part in the process of recovering the conductive material. The remaining paper-based material is then transformed into something completely new: a planted wildflower.
This simple experiment helps demonstrate an important principle, that materials do not always have to become waste at the end of a product’s life. With thoughtful design, they can be recovered, reused or given a new purpose.
Inspiring future innovators
Our outreach programme is designed to encourage curiosity around science, technology, engineering and sustainability while showing pupils that innovation can play an important role in addressing environmental challenges.
We hope that by introducing these ideas at an early age, we can encourage children to think differently about the products they use, where materials come from and what happens to them afterwards.
For Ail Arian, the programme is about more than demonstrating our technology. It is an opportunity to share our knowledge, support STEM education and inspire the next generation to consider how science and engineering can contribute to a more circular future.
Outreach beyond South Wales
We are also able to support schools outside our local area.
For schools where an in-person visit is not practical, we can provide outreach programme materials by post, together with a pre-recorded session and supporting notes to help teachers deliver the activity in their own classroom.
This allows pupils further afield to take part in the same hands-on experiment and explore topics including electronic waste, recycling, printed electronics and the circular economy.
